The Secret Draft, Hunger Mountain edition
Almost exactly a year ago I wrote the post below. Well, I’m thrilled to say that you can now read my “dragonfly tornado” challenge poem, “Pantala flavescens,” over at Hunger Mountain online. And what’s more, after you read the poem, you can read a short interview with me! Be sure to stick around and see…

Fusion: The Synergy of Images and Words (via Steve McCurry’s Blog)
It’s through the wonders of technology that the photographer Steve McCurry is able to share these wonderful images online, but the fact remains that what these images capture is the sight of people reading books. A beautiful melding of arts. Ever since Gutenberg invented the printing press which enabled everyone to read books, artists…

Confession Tuesday: in this case, less is more.
Some folks hither and yon come clean about their week every Tuesday. In that spirit (let’s not speculate what the following says about my psyche): I confess that, as I was driving with the boys to visit my mum, we ran into traffic. Complete standstill. “What’s ‘traffic?’” Vincent asked. (Good question, m’dear!) I pointed to…

We live four houses away from our library, it’s open Mondays & Wednesdays 1-8pm and Saturdays 11am-3pm, so I don’t need to stock up so drastically. Especially…

Sweet Tea & Cold Showers
That’s the only way to get through. Unless you’re fortunate enough to have AC. Here, however, it was already 88º when I got up this morning. Inside. The heat has made me — and the boys — so sloth-like that I was able to read two novels over the long weekend. Can you imagine? I…

Happy Fourth!
Reason enough to celebrate: I have conquered at least half of my computer challenges, hurrah, I’m back — Freedom! — Happy Fourth of July! We went to the Greenfield fireworks last night — what a thing! We were completely bowled over — Vincent “Wow!”-ed and “Oh my gosh!”-ed with popping eyes — Aidan, while he…

Kristin Bock & Lee Sharkey (via The Collected Poets Series)
Thursday is our last reading of the summer — we’re hip-high in plans for 2011 even now — which is not the worst substitute for being hip-high in the ocean by any means — and this should be a fabulous end to our third season. If you’re in the area, please come out! Thursday, July…
